Yinnar South Primary School is a small rural school in the Latrobe Valley in Gippsland, 165 kms east of Melbourne, nestled in the Jeeralangs hills 12 kms south of the township of Churchill. We offer a safe, inclusive education. We are proud of our history and dynamic links with the community.
The school facilities consist of the original recently refurbished school building as our community library, 2 teaching classrooms, a multipurpose room and an administration block. The Yinnar South community hall is situated on the school site and is an asset to the school and a treasured meeting place for the broader community.
The staff at Yinnar South Primary School are enthusiastic and passionate, committed to ensuring every child is catered for. Our current enrolment is 21 students who are supported by 2 part time teachers, a teaching principal, 2 education support staff and 1 school chaplain. Students are involved in Sport, Music, Art and Performing Arts.
Our Lifestyles program links our Food Tech, Sustainability, Gardening, and Chinese Language Program. Our school is one of very few in the region that has been awarded 5 stars by the Resource Smart Schools Program and students are actively working to retain this outstanding reputation.
The School Strategic Plan goals are targeted towards building whole school approaches to the teaching of Maths and English, with a focus of the current years AIP being the creation of agreed curriculum and teaching approaches in all classrooms across the school in Numeracy and Writing.
Our curriculum is based on developing students through educational stages rather than ages, every child works at the pace that best suits their needs to achieve their individual personal and learning goals. High expectations, along with individual learning programs, are targeted to nurture the unique attributes of every child. Students are encouraged to learn through authentic and inquiry based, rich tasks.
The school aims to consistently encourage lifelong learners who are equipped with the social and academic skills necessary to empower and prepare them for life beyond primary school. Our school is extremely well resourced with ICT a particular focus. Our teaching program utilises laptops at a ratio of 1:1, smart screens and Apple iPads.
